| I am so excited to start my eighth year here at George Washington Academy. In the past I have been a seventh grade teacher, but now I get to be a part of our new middle school. I will teach Social Studies to all of the seventh and eighth graders and Family and Consumer Science (FACS) to the seventh graders. I love being a part of the GWA family and am excited to work with all of the wonderful students who attend.
I grew up in Prescott, Arizona and have enjoyed living in Utah for the past twenty years. I live in St. George with my husband David and two youngest children Sierra and Gibson. Our oldest daughter Cassie is married and living in Utah with our first grand-daughter. Our oldest son Quinn is serving an LDS mission in San Jose, California. When I'm not at work I love spending time with my family and reading.

Valerie Sedgwick
| I was raised in Provo, Utah where I graduated from Timpview High School. I worked towards my bachelors degree at BYU and later graduated from Cal State Fullerton and earned a teaching certificate from Cal State Bakersfield. I taught Language Arts, Math, Drama, Science and Phys Ed at Rosedale Middle School and Highland High School, and helped open a Charter High School where I gained experience in writing curriculum and grants and working with a diverse population of students. I was very happy to move back to Utah in 2005, and help open George Washington Academy in 2006. After a brief leave of absence last year, I am very excited to be "back home" to the school, curriculum, staff and (most of all) students and families I love and that have become like family in the past seven years. I am lucky enough to be married to the famous "Mr. Sedgwick", and I have two amazing sons that also love GWA. When I'm not chasing kids or grading papers, I love to be outside running, hiking or swimming with my family. I also love good books and great movies, and do my best to keep balanced by teaching and practicing yoga. |

Hello! I am the Keyboarding, Computer Applications, and Career & Technical Education Business teacher. This will be my 3rd year here at GWA, but my 8th year teaching. Teaching is my second career. I was in the business world for over seven years. My teaching emphasis is to instill students with the ability to be successful, not only in the classroom, but also in life. I enjoy igniting a passion for business and computer applications within students. I look forward to meeting your children and having a successful year!

Keri Wright
| Keri Wright – This will be my second year teaching at George Washington Academy and I will be teaching 7th and 8th grade mathematics. I have always loved math and am excited for the new rotation program this year. I graduated summa cum laude from Dixie State College with a degree in Elementary Education (grades 1-8). When I am not teaching, I can be found hiking with my dog Bella, spending time with family, playing the piano, reading, and working on puzzles (all kinds). I am married to my best friend and together we have four children and four grandchildren with number five on the way. |

Kent Schwager
| I was born in Tucson Arizona and grew up on five acres in the middle of the Sonoran Desert. I am the last of six children, and the best memories of my childhood, are ones running around the desert with no shirt or shoes, caretaking of our animals and building whatever I could make, out of whatever materials, my best friend and I could find. I obtained my teaching degree three years ago and have taught at GWA ever since. I student taught under Steve Erickson and was then given the opportunity to teach fifth grade full time. I would like to thank Steve and GWA for providing me with this opportunity. I have now transitioned to a dedicated seventh and eighth grade science teacher. My philosophy of teaching is centered on addressing the natural needs of children. Kids like to have fun, so do I. Kids like to learn about things they are curious about, so do I. Lastly, Kids want to know why, what's the point, and so do I. These are the exact reasons, science rocks. Science is fun, it's intriguing and it relates to all of our lives. BY providing these components in the classroom, the students will be engaged, will learn and be able to apply what they have learned to the world around them! |
